The beginning ….
It all begins with an idea.
Why did I decide to become an indepedent celebrant? What a great opening question!
For me, the trigger was when my father passed away after a long battle with cancer. My father had been informed that his cancer was terminal a number of months before he died. It’s at that point life gets very real and you have to have discussions with one of your parents, which there is no training for.
My father wasn’t overly religious, so a religious funeral didn’t feel like the right thing to do. At that stage you are thinking, what are the other options? Are there any other options? It was at this time it became apparent we could have a celebrant conduct the service, so that the service was a personal reflection and celebration of my fathers life. So that is the route we went down.
People talk about life changing moments in life. Watching the celebrant deliver my fathers service was one of these moments. I was in awe of their professionalism, delivery and ability to create and deliver such a beautiful celebration of my fathers life. As strange as it may sound, right at that very moment I decided I wanted to become an independent celebrant and here I am now a practising independent celebrant.
